Colour washing and dry brushing are great ways to add depth and character to a flat colour. Believe it or not this side board started out with a base coat of Coco Chalk Paint™ by Annie Sloan. Then I applied washes of colour using Château Grey, Duck Egg, and a touch of Olive. Whilst these watered-down washes where drying I took a dry brush to blend all of the colours together, giving it a delicate and muted look of faded grandeur.

For styling I picked out natural props of coral and urchins with a sea-theme as their pinky-blue hues along with the shoreline whites work beautifully against a backdrop of blue, green and warm pinky hues. The possibilities for reinvention and room make-overs with this sort of easy-to-live-with palette are endless……
