Okay, I know I keep going on about staining natural wood with Chalk Paint™ by Annie Sloan, but this technique makes all the difference. The main body of the piece was painted in a custom mix of six parts English Yellow, one part Amsterdam Green and one part Scandinavian Pink which was painted after I’d completed the Oak stain effect on the top.
The original console table was quite an orange pine so I sanded away the original finish. The natural timber was quite flat so I decided to use boiled water to raise the grain of the wood. Then I applied my ‘stain’ which was Honfleur and a few patches of the colour I created for the bottom half. Once all the paint and stain had dried I clear waxed the whole piece then applied some dark wax to the oak effect top which picks up the grain very nicely, don’t you think?
