On Saturday 29th September, I had the opportunity to visit Ireland once again as the guest of Annie Sloan distributor Twenty Six to host a demonstration day in the Rediscovery Centre in Dublin. I had a very full class of painters (with all different abilities), and was surrounded by such an inspiring and creative space devoted to connecting people, ideas and resources for greener living in Ireland.
I demonstrated some of my core furniture painting techniques – Wet Distress, Faded Grandeur, Industrial Rust and Verdigris using Saltwash – to help Ireland’s established painting community take their skills to the next level.
This was in addition to the super popular Faux Marble effect, which has proved so popular as a free workshop in my online Painted Love Academy (if you haven’t tried it yet, just register here). This is me on the day transforming the top of a curvaceous chest of drawers into something far more luxe!
It was great to get asked so many questions whilst I worked. It’s always a pleasure when like-minded creatives get together for these real life demo days and get so involved with it all – whether by exchanging ideas, meeting useful contacts, or simply making new friends and getting heaps of inspiration. We were delighted to welcome a couple of Dublin’s favourite interiors bloggers to the event too, Darran from Old Victorian New and Jo from A Proud Home. If you don’t follow these guys yet, make sure you check them out for fantastic, affordable and creative home decor tips.
Margaret also had me signing copies of Annie Sloan’s wonderful new bookazine The Colourist, so if you haven’t managed to get hold of your copy yet, please ask her for it – you may even find yourself a signed copy by JMM!
Here I am (above) with the pieces transformed and upcycled in Dublin followed by (below) a few photos styled and staged in Margaret’s home. I cannot thank her enough for inviting me for the second time to join her and her lovely family in Ireland.
I hope to return with Mr Mendes in 2019 to teach some hands-on painting workshops. Please drop us a line below if you’d like to attend and keep an eye out on my Events page.
